Shon Ends First Day at Canadian Open
August 26, 2011 | Women's Golf
Princeton sophomore Kelly Shon shot an even-par 72 Thursday on the first day of the Canadian Open in Mirabel, Quebec, potentially putting her in position to make the cut and advance to the final two rounds of play.
Shon and 25 others are tied for 63rd place, and the top 70 players and ties after Friday's round will advance to the event's final two rounds. Shon is one of two American amateurs and the second of eight amateurs overall in the 155-player field. Israeli and Duke sophomore Laetitia Beck finished the first round as the top amateur at 1-under.
Japan's Ai Miyazato and Sweden's Pernilla Lindberg co-lead the field at 7-under. Angela Stanford, defending champion Michelle Wie and Jenny Shin are the top Americans at 5-under.
Shon will tee off her second round at 1 p.m. Friday. Follow the leaderboard here.
