Penn Defeats Sprint Football in Season Opener
September 17, 2011 | Sprint Football
Penn defeated the Princeton sprint football team 34-0 Friday night at Franklin Field in the season opener for both teams.
The Quakers had a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter after a Todd Busler two-yard touchdown run with 5:20 to play in the opening stanza before adding two more scores before halftime for a 20-0 advantage. Andrew Donald caught two touchdown passes for the Quakers, who did most of their damage on the ground with 308 of their 436 yards via the run.
Princeton outgained Penn 174-128 through the air, with Jaison Zacharaiah completing 12 of 23 attempts without an interception. Forty-five of those yards came on a catch by Nicolas Lulli late in the second quarter for the game's longest pass play. Two Princeton drives, representing the two deepest Tiger incursions into Penn territory, ended in missed field goals from 26 and 35 yards out.
The Tigers will take the field again Saturday, Sept. 24 for a 1 p.m. game at Mansfield.
