Golf Teams Prepare for Yale, Missouri Tournaments
September 29, 2011 | Men's Golf, Women's Golf
Continuing their fall seasons, the Princeton golf teams will compete in the men's McDonald Cup at Yale and the women's Imes Invitational at Missouri in the coming days.
The men's Yale tournament, the McDonald Cup at The Course at Yale, is first with 13 teams playing 36 holes Saturday and 18 Sunday. Six of the eight Ivy programs will take part, with Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard and Penn joining Princeton and the host Bulldogs. The non-Ivy competitors include Central Connecticut State, Colgate, Fordham, Rhode Island, Sacred Heart St. Edwards (Texas) and Temple.
Though the teams were frequent dual-match competitors in the past, the last and only time Princeton competed in Yale's home tournament was 2007. This fall, the Tigers have competed in two tri-matches, one involving Harvard and Yale and the other with Georgia and Army last Sunday, as well as the McLaughlin Invitational hosted by St. John's.
Monday and Tuesday, the women's team will head to Missouri to compete in the Johnie Imes Invitational for the fifth straight year at The Club at Old Hawthorne. Princeton's highest finish in the event was a second-place finish in 2007.
The 15 teams in the Imes tournament will include: Arkansas-Little Rock, Bradley, Colorado State,Florida International, Illinois State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Missouri-Kansas City, Missouri State, Morehead State, Princeton, SMU, Texas State and Wichita State.
The tournament will be the second of the season for the women's team after opening with the Princeton Invitational at Springdale Golf Club last weekend.
