Besting a field of 112 competitors, Princeton freshman Katharine Holmes won the Junior World Cup women's epee event in Dijon, France Sunday.

Holmes had the No. 25 seed in the direct elimination event, defeating three lower-seeded opponents before knocking off top-seeded Ashley Severson, a Notre Dame freshman, in the quarterfinal by a 15-9 score. Holmes never had a score closer than 15-12 in her six direct-elimination matches.

The field included fencers from 18 countries across four continents.

Princeton's fencing teams will have their next dual-meet competitions during the first weekend of February at Northwestern.
