HYP on Tap for Track & Field Teams

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/7/12) - The Princeton track & field teams will compete at HYP at Harvard on Saturday, Feb. 11.
The meet begins at 12 p.m., with the women's weight throw and long jump. The last event is scheduled for 4:35 p.m.
The women's team is seeking its third straight HYP victory. The Tigers have won the meet four times in the last five years. Princeton won 10 of the 15 events, including: the 60, 200, 800, 3000, hurdles, pole vault, triple jump, long jump, shot put and weight throw. Harvard finished second and Yale third.
Senior Eileen Moran was a double winner with victories in the 60 and 200. She ran the 60 in 7.70 and the 200 at 25.17. Junior Erin Guty was the runner up in both events and later earned a victory in the long jump, reaching 5.61 meters. Junior Melissa Zajdel won the 800 in a time of 2:11.50 and senior Alex Banfich won the 3k by more than nine seconds. Princeton went 1-2-3-4 in the pole vault, earning 10.5 of a possible 11 points in the event. Junior Tory Worthen was the victor clearing 3.75 meters. Sophomore Imani Oliver won her team five points by taking first in the triple jump. Lauren Barber '11, Thanithia Billings'11 and Emma Ruggiero '11 all earned wins in the 60, shot put and weight, respectively.
The men's team earned its seventh straight HYP title in 2011, winning 14 of 16 events. Harvard was second and Yale was third. The Tigers won the 60, 400, 800, 1000, mile, 3000, hurdles, 4x400, high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump, shot put and weight throw. Harvard earned victories in the two other events, the 500 and 4x800.
Earning wins for the Tigers were senior Kashif Smith (60), junior Richard Sheldon (hurdles), Austin Hollimon (200 & 4x8), Mike Eddy '11 (400 & 4x4), junior Peter Callahan (800), junior Russell Dinkins (4x8), Jordan Sawadogo'11 (4x800), Donn Cabral (mile), senior Trevor Van Ackeren (1000), senior Tyler King (3k), sophomore Damon McLean (long & triple jumps), sophomore Omar Jarrett (high jump), senior David Slovenski (pole vault), Craig Pearce '11 (weight) and George Abyad '11 (shot).
