Princeton Invitational Wraps Up Home Schedule for Indoor Track & Field

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/16/12) - The final home meet of the Princeton indoor track & field season is this Saturday, Feb. 18. The Princeton Invitational will welcome 15 teams to Jadwin Gym.
Participating teams include: Cheyney, Columbia, Delaware, District of Columbia, Franklin & Marhsall, Georgian Court, Harcum, Holy Family, Kutztown, Millersville, Montclair State, Rowan, Shippensburg, Towson and of course the Princeton Tigers.
The meet begins at 11 a.m., with the men's weight throw and women's long jump. The men's 60-meter trials kicks off the track events at noon.
At last year's Princeton Invitational, the women's team won five events.
Emma Ruggiero '11 recorded a new personal best as she won the weight throw at 18.48 meters (60-7.75), nearly two feet further than second-place thrower. Isabell von Loga '11 won the shot put with a throw of 13.83 (45-4.50), the only thrower to throw over 45 feet.
Junior Erin Guty was second overall and the first collegian in the long jump as she launched to 5.60 (18-4.50). In the high jump, sophomore Theresa Kennedy was one of seven that would reach 1.60 (5-3) to finish in a first-place tie.
The first five places in the pole vault all went to Princeton with junior Tory Worthen winning the event with a mark of 3.80 (12-5.50).
Sophomore Carrie Vuong won the 500 with a PR of 1:17.93.
Bianca Mathabane '11 and Lauren Barber '11 both qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles. Mathabane ran 8.79 in the finals to place second and Barber ran 8.90 in the finalsto finish fourth.
The men's team captured seven wins at last year's Princeton Invitational.
Senior Garner McCloud won the triple jump as he launched to 14.08 (46-2.50) nearly four feet further than Samuel Nkama of CCNY who placed second. Sophomore Tom Hopkins was the runner-up in the long jump and sophomore Omar Jarrett was third in the high jump.Seniors David Slovenski and Derek Hynes were the only two pole vaulters to get over 16 feet as they finished first and second, respectively.
Sophomore Brian Mills was third in the 60-meter dash at 7.05 and in the 60-meter hurdles, junior Richard Sheldon ran a season-best 8.12 to win the event.
Sophomore Michael Williams won the 800 at 1:57.09 in the first time running the event in his college career. Senior Nilan Schnure and junior Sebastian Steffen were third in their respective events, the 400 and the 200.
Craig Pearce '11 threw a personal best in the weight throw, finishing third overall and first among collegians. Pearce threw to 19.50 meters (63-11.75), 11 inches longer than his previous best throw.
The Princeton name dominated the shot put with George Abyad '11 winning the event throwing to 16.92 meters (55-6.25), just a half inch past alum Eric Plummer '10. Plummer ranks fourth all-time at Princeton in the shot put and launched his furthest shot to 16.91 (55-5.75). Senior Patrick Park finished third with a toss of 16.26 (53-4.25).
