PRINCETON, N.J. (2/20/12) - The Princeton men's hockey team wraps up the 2011-12 regular season hosting Yale and Brown on Senior Weekend. The Tigers host Yale on Friday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m., and Brown on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 4 p.m.
Princeton is currently in 10th place in the league standings and can finish anywhere for 9th-12th, guaranteeing travel for the ECAC First Round. (see page 12 for ECAC scenarios). The Tigers are 6-11-3 in league play and 8-13-6 overall. Princeton split last weekend with a 3-0 loss at No. 8 Union followed by a 6-2 win over RPI. The Tigers average 2.63 goals per game and have allowed 3.07 gpg. Princeton's power play is fifth in the league converting 19.5% (22/113) of the time while the penalty kill has killed off 81.2% (95/117) of the penalties.
Sophomore Andrew Calof leads the Tigers in both goals and assists. He has 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points. Classmate Jack Berger has nine goals and 11 helpers for 30 points. Junior defender Michael Sdao contributes 17 points, junior Rob Kleebaum has 15 and senior Marc Hagel adds 14. Junior Mike Condon has made 12 starts in goal and has a 4-5-3 record. He boasts a .921 save percentage and a 2.79 goals against average. Sophomore Sean Bonar has started in 15 games and has a 4-8-3 record, an .898 save percentage and a 3.02 GAA.
Yale is undefeated 6-0-1 in the last seven games in the series. Princeton's last win was on Feb. 21, 2009. The Bulldogs hold a 127-102-10 edge in the all-time series that began on Jan. 19, 1901. Princeton leads its former travel partner 47-42-4 when playing in Princeton. Junior Michael Sdao leads all current Tigers against Yale with five points in seven games. Sophomore Andrew Calof, junior Rob Kleebaum and senior Marc Hagel have four points apiece. Both junior Mike Condon and sophomore Sean Bonar have been in goal against Yale this season. Bonar made 28 saves in a 2-2 tie with Yale in the first game of the season, while Condon made 43 stops in New Haven in January.
Yale is tied for seventh in the league standings with St. Lawrence with a 9-10-1 ECAC record. The Bulldogs are 12-13-2 overall and swept last weekend by topping Dartmouth 5-3 and Harvard 7-1 at home. Yale averages 3.48 goals per game, the second most in the league, and holds teams to 2.93 gpg. Both special teams rank in the top three with the power play converting 23.8% (31/130) and the penalty kill killing 87% (100/115).
Senior Brian O'Neill is the team's leading scorer with 18 goals and 18 assists for 36 points. Junior Andrew Miller has a team-high 24 helpers and six goals for 30 points. Sophomore Kenny Agostino and junior Antoine Laganiere have 28 and 23 points, respectively. Junior Jeff Malcolm has made 22 starts in goal for a 9-11-2 record. He has a 2.70 GAA and a .911 save percentage. Junior Nick Maricic has started in the other five contests and is 3-2 with a 3.14 GAA and an .895 save percentage.
Brown leads the all-time series 81-65-7. The teams have faced each other twice already this season. Brown took a 3-2 game at the Ivy Shooutout in October, and the Tigers earned a 3-2 overtime win in Providence last month. Sophomore Andrew Calof leads the Tigers offensively against the Bears. He has eight points in five games. Junior Michael Sdao and senior Derrick Pallis add seven and five points, respectively. Junior Mike Condon played in goal in both games this season and has faced Brown four times. He is 2-2 against the Bears with 121 saves on 131 shots.
Brown is tied for 12th in the ECAC standings with a 5-12-3 record. The Bears are 8-15-4 overall and are winless in their last eight games at 0-7-1. Last weekend Brown tied Harvard 3-3 and fell 4-1 to Dartmouth. The Bears average 2.44 goals per game and allow 3.07. Brown has the fourth-best penalty kill in the league at 84.7% (105/124) but its 10th in power play at 15.2% (19/125).
Senior Jack Maclellan leads the team in both goals and assists. He has 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points. Freshman Ryan Jacobson and senior Bobby Farnham both have 18 points, with Jacobson second on the team in goals with 10. Freshman Matt Lorita adds 16 points and sophomore defenders Dennis Robertson and Matt Wahl chip in 14 and 13 points, respectively. Senior Mike Clemente has started in 21 games in goal and has a 7-13-2 record. He has a .903 save percentage and a 2.76 GAA. Sophomore Marco DeFilippo has made the remaining six starts and has a .906 save percentage and a 3.23 GAA with a 1-2-2 record.
