PRINCETON, N.J. (2/7/12) - The Princeton men's hockey team hits the road for the next two weekends, with six regular season games remaining on the schedule. This weekend the Tigers head to the North Country to take on Clarkson on Friday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m., and head coach Bob Prier's alma mater St. Lawrence on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 4 p.m.
The Tigers are 7-10-6 overall and 5-8-3 in ECAC Hockey to sit in a ninth-place tie in the standings along with St. Lawrence. Princeton is undefeated in its last four games (2-0-2), and has lost just once in its last eight games (3-1-4). The Tigers average 2.70 goals per game and allow 3.09 gpg. Since the Christmas break, however Princeton has averaged 3.4 gpg and allowed 3.1. The Tigers' power play ranks fourth in the leauge at 21.7% (20/92) while their penalty kill is at 80.8% (80/99), seventh in the league. Princeton is led offensively by a pair of sophomores, Andrew Calof and Jack Berger. Calof has one more points than Berger with nine goals and 10 assists, with Berger has nine goals and assists each. Junior defender Michael Sdao is third on the list with seven goals and nine assists. Classmate Rob Kleebaum has seven goals and six assists. Seniors Marc Hagel and Derrick Pallis along with junior Eric Meland all have 10 points. Junior Mike Condon has stared in the last six games and has a 3-4-3 record with a .913 save percentage and a 2.92 goals against average. Sophomore Sean Bonar has made 13 starts and owns a 4-6-3 record, an .899 save percentage and a 2.94 GAA.
Princeton has won the last two meetings with the Golden Knights including a 3-0 win at Baker Rink on Nov. 12. The last time the Tigers played at Cheel, they won 4-3 in overtime. It was Princeton's fifth win in Potsdam. Clarkson leads the all-time series 71-28-5, and has dominated at home 35-5. Senior Derrick Pallis leads the current Tigers in scoring against the Green & Gold with 5 points (1-4-5) and a +4. Senior Brodie Zuk adds four assists. Sophomore Andrew Ammon has the best points per game, averaging 1.5 ppg. Sophomore Sean Bonar has played in two games against the Knights and is 2-0 with a 1.50 GAA and a .950 save percentage. Junior Mike Condon has played in one game.
Clarkson is 13-12-5 overall and 7-6-3 in the ECAC to sit in fifth place in the standings. This will be its first game at home in two weeks. Last weekend the Knights defeated Brown 3-1 and loss at Yale 5-1. Clarkson averages 2.70 gpg and allow 2.57. The power play and penalty kill rank in the middle of the pack in the league, at 17.1% (24/140) and 81.9% (127/155), respectively. The team is led offensively by a pair of seniors, Louke Oakley and Nick Tremblay. Oakley has scored 11 times and adds a team-best 16 assists for 27 points. Trembaly has a team-best 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points. Sophomore Ben Sexton contributed 20 points while rookie defender Sam Labrecque is next on the list with 17 points. Four others are in double figures in scoring. Senior Paul Karpowich has started in all by two games. He has a .928 save percentage and a 2.26 GAA.
St. Lawrence leads the all-time series 62-21-9 and has won the last three meetings, all by one goal. The Saints took a 3-2 game in the first meeting of the season on Nov. 11. Senior Derrick Pallis has six points (1-5-6), sophomore Andrew Calof has five (3-2-5) and sophomore Andrew Ammon and juniors Michael Sdao and Rob Kleebaum have four points apeice. Sophomore San Bonar has played in five games against the Knights and is 2-3 with a 2.03 GAA and a .900 save percentage. Junior Mike Condon has faced them one time, and won with a 3.00 GAA and a .906 save percentage.
St. Lawrence enters the weekend with a 10-15-3 overall record a 6-9-1 mark in the ECAC to sit in ninth place along with Princeton. The Saints swept Yale and Brown last weekend, taking down Yale 4-3 in OT and defeating Brown 5-3. The wins ended a six-game winless skid. St. Lawrence averages 2.36 gpg and allow 3.39. Like Clarkson, St. Lawrence's special teams rank in the middle of the league at 19.1% (27/141) and 77.5% (100/129). Junior Kyle Flanagan leads the team in scoring with 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 points. Sophomore Greg Carey has 24 points off of nine goals and 15 helpers. Freshman Chris Martin and junior defender George Hughes add 17 and 16 points, respectively. Three more players are in double digits in scoring. Sophomore Matt Weninger has started in goal in 24 of 28 games. He has a 3.16 GAA and an .897 save percentage. Senior Robby Moss has provided back up appearing in six games.
