Baseball Splits Sunday Doubleheader at Navy, Wins Season Series

After seeing Saturday's doubleheader postponed, the Princeton baseball team split action Sunday, defeating the Mids 4-2 in game one, before coming up short, 7-5, to conclude the series. The Tigers went 2-1 at Navy to earn its second series victory of the year and conclude the non-conference half of the schedule at 6-9.
Princeton tallied 18 hits on the day, with Alec Keller's five leading the way. Keller also had two RBI and two runs, while Sam Mulroy had three hits, three RBI, two walks, a run and a triple.
In game one, Michael Fagan earned his first win of the year on the mound, behind a pair of hitless relief innings. During that span he also threw three strikeouts. Zak Hermans started the game and went six innings on the rubber. He threw three strikeouts, allowing four hits and both Navy runs.
In the top of the third, Mulroy hit an infield RBI single to break Princeton onto the board. Mike Ford followed, doubling the Tigers lead to 2-0 with an RBI single to center field.
Navy attempted a comeback in the sixth inning, evening the score 2-2, but it was the Tigers who would have the final offensive rally. In the eighth, Keller, who went 4-for-5 for the second consecutive game, hit a two out single and was advanced by Matt Bowman. With runners on first and second, John Mishu loaded the bases, reaching on an error by the Mids. In the six spot, Mulroy came to the plate and sailed a two-RBI single to left field to seal the win for the Tigers, 4-2.
Game two opened with Navy scoring four runs over the first three innings. In the top of the fourth, Princeton's offense was jumpstarted with a pair of runs. Ford hit a one out double down the left field line and was advanced to third on a Tyler Servais single to center field. Steve Harrington came to the plate with runners on the corners and hit a two-RBI double to right field to cut the Midshipmen's lead in half, 4-2.
Navy responded with a three-run bottom half of the inning.
With the bases loaded, Keller hit a two-RBI single to the right side in the top of the sixth. The following inning, Mulroy hit a leadoff triple to center field and was sent home off a Ford sacrifice fly to center field to make it two-run game, 7-5, in favor of the Mids.
Over their final two offensive opportunities, the Tigers were unable to continue to chip away at Navy's lead.
Princeton will open up Ivy League play with doubleheaders versus Dartmouth (Mar. 31) and Harvard (Apr. 1).
