Kuhn Named Ivy Softball Pitcher of the Week
April 10, 2012 | Softball
Princeton junior Liza Kuhn has been named the Ivy League Softball Pitcher of the Week, the Ivy League office announced Tuesday.
It is the first career award for Kuhn and the first Ivy League Pitcher of the Week award for Princeton since April 12, 2011 when Alex Peyton earned the honor. It is Princeton's first Ivy weekly honor since Alyssa Schmidt was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week on March 13.
Kuhn made three appearances in the circle over the last week, tossing a shutout against Seton Hall, getting a win over Yale and dueling into the 11th inning before dropping a one-run decision at Brown.
Against Seton Hall, Kuhn fanned eight and gave up just four hits in the full seven innings. Against Yale, Kuhn struck out a career-high 13 batters, bettering her previous best by three (10 vs. Colorado State on March 17). The following day against Brown, Kuhn allowed just two runs in 10 2/3 innings before the Bears prevailed 2-1. Kuhn's ERA for the week was 1.70, and she had a rate of nearly eight strikeouts per seven innings.
Kuhn and the Tigers will enter Ivy South divisional play Saturday against Penn at the Class of 1895 Field after hosting La Salle for a non-league twinbill Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
