BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Lehigh swept a twinbill Wednesday from the Princeton softball team 3-1 and 2-0 in the annual meeting between the Patriot and Ivy League programs.
With the sweep, Princeton falls to 12-25 overall, while Lehigh improves to 30-16.
Game 1: Lehigh 3, Princeton 1
A three-run fourth inning made the difference for the Lehigh softball team in a 3-1 victory over Princeton to open the doubleheader.
The Tigers scored first, with Cara Worden picking up Rachel Rendina's single with a sacrifice fly two batters later in the third inning.
Alex Peyton (5-10) had given up just one hit through Lehigh's first three at-bats, but that changed in the fourth when three singles and two errors helped the Mountain Hawks take a 3-1 lead in the fourth.
Worden led Princeton with two hits in the first game, while Emily Bausher (14-9) picked up the win for Lehigh in five innings of work. Kelsey Lee stepped in to get the two-inning save.
Game 2: Lehigh 2, Princeton 0
Rebecca Bliss two-hit the Tigers in a complete-game effort while Lehigh picked up a run each against Meredith Brown and Liza Kuhn in a 2-0 nightcap victory.
A first-inning double for Kelsey VandeBergh, a sixth-inning single for Rachel Rendina and Rendina reaching on an error in the third were the only baserunners Princeton had.
A leadoff walk to Liz Lucas, a sacrifice bunt and a double for Emma Capetz gave Lehigh its first run in the second inning, while back-to-back doubles for Jennifer Colquhoun and Julie Fernandez scored another run in the sixth.
Brown (2-4) took the loss for Princeton, giving up four hits and a walk in 3 1/3 innings while Kuhn worked 2 2/3, giving up two hits and a walk. Bliss improved to 13-6 on the season.
The Tigers will travel to Columbia Friday and Saturday to resume the Ivy League schedule.
