Heavyweights Split With Brown; Bears Reclaim Content Cup
April 28, 2012 | Heavyweight Rowing
Third-ranked Brown and eighth-ranked Princeton split four races Saturday morning on Bud Smith Memorial Race Course on Lake Carnegie. The Bears reclaimed the Content Cup with a 7.9-second win over the Tigers in the varsity eight showdown.
Brown, which trails only Harvard in the latest EARC V8 rankings, avenged last year's loss with a winning time of 5:46.2, while Princeton finished second in 5:54.1. The win gives Brown an 11-8 edge in the all-time Content Cup standings.
The Princeton second varsity had a huge win, topping Brown by 2.8 seconds with a time of 5:51.4. Brown had been seeded third in the latest EARC seedings at the 2V, while Princeton had been eighth. The win should give the Tigers a much more favorable semifinal when the EARC Championships take place on May 13 in Worcester, Mass.
The Princeton freshman eight also picked up a big win, defeating Brown by more than seven seconds in a time of 6:05.9. The freshman boat improved to 6-3 on the season and should remain a top-six seed heading into Eastern Sprints.
