Women's Track & Field Finishes Day 1 of Sam Howell Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/6/12) - The Princeton women's track & field team competed in Day 1 of the Sam Howell Invitational on Friday, April 6 at Weaver Stadium.
The Princeton discus record holder freshman Nonny Okewelogu finished third in the event. She threw to 43.05 (141-03) on her fifth attempt. Sophomore Chelsea Cioffi was sixth with a mark of 40.33 (132-04) on her final attempt.
The Tigers went 7-8-9 in the 1500 meters. Juniors Greta Feldman and Alexis Mikaelian ran 4:22.35 and 4:25.52, respectively for seventh and eighth place. Sophomore Molly Higgins ran a PR of 4:28.47, shaving 4.13 seconds off her previous best time to finish in ninth place.
Former Tiger Ashley Higginson '11 and volunteer assistant cross country coach won the steeplechase at 9:50.54 as a member of the Saucony Hurricane team. A two-time All-America in the event, she was the only runner to run in under 10 minutes. Freshman Jackie Nicholas ran a PR in the event clocking in at 10:48.56.
Abby Levene ran a PR and finished third overall in the final event of the night, the 10k. Levene ran 35:32.64. Princeton assistant cross country coach Lisa Baumert won the race, as a member of the Saucony Hurricane cruising across the line with a meet record time of 34.21.13.
Day 2 begins at 11 a.m., Saturday with the women's hammer throw.
