PRINCETON, N.J. (9/19/12) - The 2012 Princeton Soccer Invitational returns to Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium, this weekend, Sept. 21 and 23. The Tigers host Rider on Friday at 7:30 p.m., following the Penn/Fairleigh Dickinson game at 5 p.m.
Princeton holds a steady 12-3-3 record over Rider in the all-time series, but it has been a decade since the two teams, separated by just seven miles, have met. The Broncs won the last meeting on Sept. 25, 2002, 3-2.
The teams have one common opponent, Seton Hall. Princeton defeated Seton Hall on Aug. 31, 2-1, while Rider lost 2-1 in OT on Sept. 3.
The Tigers are coming off a win at Villanova from Sunday, snapping a three-game losing streak. Princeton has started to gain momentum in its last two games. They've made up a -10 shot differential in the first three games to -1 in the last two. Freshman Thomas Sanner leads the team offensively with one goal and two assists for four points. Senior Matt Sanner and sophomore Julian Griggs have a goal apiece, and sophomore Cameron Porter has one assist. Junior Seth MacMillan has started in goal in the last two games and has made 10 saves on 11 shots on goal for a 0.50 goals against average and a .909 save percentage.
Rider is looking for its first win of the season, opening the year with an 0-5 mark. The Broncs recorded one-goal losses to Seton Hall and Long Island and two-goal losses to Monmouth, St. Joe's and St. Francis (NY). Freshman Robert Kroschwitz and sophomore Ryan Walsh have scored the team's two goals, with senior Brenden Noesges and freshman Tyler Morris having assists. The team averages over 11 shots per game but has only put 25% of those shots on frame, a total of 14. Senior Matt Perrella started the first three games in goal and made 17 saves on 22 shots for a 1.66 GAA and a .773 save percentage. Senior Jason Giordano has gotten the nod the last two games and stopped nine of 15 for a 3.00 GAA and a .600 save percentage.
