PRINCETON, N.J. (9/6/11) - The Princeton men's soccer team hosts Rutgers in the home opener on Saturday, Sept. 8. Game time is set for 2 p.m., at Roberts Stadium.
Both teams are coming off of 3-0 losses to nationally ranked teams, Princeton to St. John's and Rutgers to Creighton.
Princeton leads the all-time series with Rutgers 26-18-9 since the teams started playing in 1951. The Tigers took a 3-0 game in the last meeting on Oct. 15, 2008.Princeton is 1-1 on the year after opening the year with a 2-1 win over Seton Hall before falling to St. John's on Wednesday. Senior Matt Sanner and sophomore Julian Griggs have scored once each, while freshman Thomas Sanner has two assists. Senior goalkeeper Max Gallin has made 12 saves on 16 shots for a .750 save percentage and a 2.00 GAA.
Rutgers is 1-2 on the season after opening the year with a 1-0 win over Fordham on Aug. 24, and dropping two at the Creighton tournament last weekend. The Scarlet Knights lost 1-0 to SIU-Edwardsville and 3-0 to nationally ranked Creighton. Rutgers hasn't scored a goal in two games, with Mitchell Taintor being the team's lone goal scorer. Mael Corboz assisted on the goal. Kevin McMullen has played every minute in goal and has made nine saves on 13 shots for a 1.33 GAA and a .692 save percentage. Rutgers averages 9.3 shots per game and has taken 11 more corner kicks than its opponents, 17-6.
