Trentonian Previews Men's Soccer Showdown with Rutgers

Princeton, Rutgers Renew Rivalry

Soccer's version of the Route 1 Corridor Showdown is back for the first time in four years.
And it has an added dimension.
When Princeton's men's team hosts Rutgers at 2 p.m. tomorrow, it will be the first meeting of the two area rivals since 2008. Adding to the excitement for local fans is that it also pits Hightstown against Steinert, as Princeton coach Jim Barlow is a former Ram and Rutgers mentor Dan Donigan is Spartan grad.
Both are in their respective high school's Halls of Fame and both are in the Mercer County Hall of Fame.
And both realize that their first head-to-head meeting in Jersey (other than a spring match) doesn't mean a darn thing to either team. "I'm sure it's an added luster for some fans and supporters and some alums of some of the programs," Donigan said. "It's a very positive thing for the community.
