Halpern '98 Returns to the NHL, Signs with Phoenix

GLENDALE, Ariz. (10/12/13) - Princeton men's hockey alum Jeff Halpern '98 makes his return to the NHL after a brief hiatus as the Phoenix Coyotes announced they have signed the center today to a one-year, two-way contract.
Halpern played eight games for TPS in SM-Liiga (Finland) before decided to leave the team. In those eight games he scored four goals.
He began the 2012-13 season with the New York Rangers before being claimed off of waivers by Montreal. Halpern played in every game for the Rangers, 30 total, and won 56.7 percent of his faceooffs, had 36 hits and one assist. In 19 games with the Canadiens, including three in the playoffs, Halpern had one goal and two assists.
Halpern began his NHL career in 2005 with the Washington Capitals as team captain. In his 13 seasons he has spent time with the Dallas Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning, Los Angeles Kings, the Canadiens and the Rangers.
He has played in 907 regular season games, recording 147 goals and 214 assists for 361 points and 617 penalty mintues. Halpern has also appeared in 39 Stanley Cup playoff games, totaling 14 points on seven goals and seven assists.
