Shon's First Day at NCAA Women's Golf Championships Complete
May 21, 2013 | Women's Golf
Kelly Shon finished the first day at 4-over at the University of Georgia Golf Course to open play at the NCAA women's golf championships.
Shon had a tough start to the day, making bogey on each of the first three holes, then going birdie-bogey on the seventh and eighth holes to turn at +3. She either birdied or bogeyed each of the first five holes on the back nine, getting three of the latter as she parred the last four holes to end at +4.
San Jose State's Regan De Guzman ended the first day as the leader at -5. Unlike the regionals, where players competed through three rounds, the NCAA finals is a four-round event running through Friday.
Shon, the first Princetonian or Ivy Leaguer since 1997 and just the second of either overall to play in the NCAA finals, will begin her second round at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.
