Four Tigers Earn Bids to Represent U.S. at Fencing World Championships

Four Princeton fencers earned the opportunity to compete for the U.S. at the World Fencing Championships in Hungary in August.
Sophomore Katharine Holmes, senior Eliza Stone, Soren Thompson '05 and Maya Lawrence '02 earned bids by accumulating points through a system employed by U.S. Fencing. The fencers earned those points at various tournaments, both in the U.S. and internationally, during a window of time that closed over the weekend.
Holmes and Lawrence will be teammates on the U.S. women's epee team, while Thompson will be a part of the U.S. men's epee team. Stone is one of the four on the U.S. women's saber team. The competition will run August 5-12 in Budapest, Hungary.
Both Thompson and Stone were individual NCAA champions during their time at Princeton, with Stone and Holmes among the 12 that competed for Princeton at the NCAA finals this past year, earning the program its first combined men's/women's NCAA championship.
