January 13, 2014 | Men's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON, N.J. (1/13/14) - Freshman goaltender Colton Phinney has been named the GoPrincetonTigers Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 12.
Phinney made a career-high 45 saves and allowed two goals on Saturday against No. 4 Union. Phinney's save total is the most by a Princeton netminder since Mike Condon made 57 saves on Feb. 17, 2012, coincidently in a 3-0 loss to Union. During a five-minute major to a teammate Phinney made nine saves including 1:35 of 5x3 action after a second infraction to the Tigers. He made another big stop in the final two minutes of the second on a Ciampini breakaway.
Phinney had a 1.53 GAA against a team that averages more than double that (3.70) and a .963 save percentage.
The Tigers return to action on Jan. 31 & 1 when they travel to Harvard & Dartmouth.
