Women's Tennis Opens Play at Vanderbilt Tournament
October 10, 2014 | Women's Tennis
Princeton opened play at Vanderbilt's June Stewart Invitational Friday with five singles matches and four doubles matches against players from Vanderbilt and Arizona State.
None of the two doubles matches or two singles matches against ASU players were rematches of last May's 4-3 Princeton win in the first round of the NCAA tournament, the first match win in the NCAAs in Princeton program history.
Princeton took two of the five singles matches played Friday, with Caroline Joyce defeating ASU's Gussie O'Sullivan and Emily Hahn besting ASU's Alexandra Osborne, while two of the losses to Vanderbilt players came against ITA-ranked opponents.
In doubles play, Princeton won two of the four, with Katie Goepel and Sara Goodwin defeating Vanderbilt's Payton Robinette and Ellie Yates, while Emily Hahn and Amanda Muliawan topped ASU's Alexandra Osborne and Leighann Sahagun. Joan Cannon and Amanda Muliawan came within a tiebreak of forcing a third set against 17th-ranked Sydney Campbell and Courtney Colton of Vanderbilt.
