Colautti Advances Through to Sunday at USTA/ITA Regional
October 19, 2014 | Men's Tennis
Princeton started the day with seven singles players remaining in the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional bracket and ended it with one.
Tom Colautti won both his second- and third-round matches Saturday at the USTA National Tennis Center's indoor courts and advanced to play Columbia's Winston Lin in the tournament's Round of 16. Lin is the tournament's No. 1 seed and was ranked No. 8 in the nation on the ITA's preseason list. Colautti's match is set for a 10 a.m. start.
“We had some very close matches today where we just didn't quite turn the corner," Princeton head coach Billy Pate said. "(Zack) McCourt had a couple of match points and (Alex) Day had two set points in his match. We simply need to do a better job of converting those chances. Nonetheless, we played some very quality opponents in each loss and I see a great deal of growth from our younger players the last few days. We have some good opportunities tomorrow with Colautti and our doubles team (McCourt/Day) still alive, so we'll look forward to getting back to work tomorrow."
McCourt and Day are slated to start their Round of 16 (third round) doubles match at 8:30 a.m. against R.J. Del Nunzio and Robert Livi of St. John's.
