Women's Tennis Opens Play at Home Invite, ITA All-America
October 02, 2014 | Women's Tennis
The Princeton women's tennis team was in action on both coasts Thursday with senior Lindsay Graff in California at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships and the rest of the Tigers opening the Princeton Invitational with a hidden-dual format match against players from Columbia.
In the Round of 32 of the ITA's main-draw singles competition, Graff, ranked 67th in the national, fell 6-1, 6-0 to 15th-ranked Zoë Scandalis of USC. The appearance was Graff's first in the singles main draw and third at the event after competing in doubles as a freshman and in the qualification singles round as a sophomore.
Meanwhile, on the first of four days at the Princeton Invitational, Princeton swept seven singles matches from players from Columbia, with Amanda Muliawan's 6-3, 6-3 win over national No. 85 Kanika Vaidya atop the list. Six of the seven wins came in straight sets with freshman Katrine Steffensen battling back from losing the second set against Alexandra Solovyev to win in a tiebreak third set.
