Men's Tennis Enjoys Successful First Day in Virginia
October 04, 2014 | Men's Tennis
The four members of the Princeton men's tennis team playing in the University of Virginia's Fall Classic combined to win five of six doubles matches played Friday. Only doubles were played on the tournament's first day due to rain.
"It was an extremely productive day as each pair played three doubles matches indoors because of the inclement weather," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "By playing back-to-back, it allowed us to focus on our execution and aspects we've been addressing at practice. It was a very positive outing and we'll look to build on that in singles tomorrow and Sunday."
Luke Gamble and Dan Richardson advanced to the finals of the event's top draw, the Blue draw, before losing 8-6 to Conner Huertas Del Pico and Sebastian Yllera from East Tennessee State. In the Black draw, Florin Radu and Ben Tso won the flight by getting past duos from Liberty, Virginia Tech and George Mason.
Play will continue at 9 a.m. Saturday. With doubles play complete, two rounds of singles will be played each day to complete the tournament. Draws updated with doubles results and ready for singles play are available at the link on this page.
