Women's Tennis to Face Familiar, New Foes at Vanderbilt Tournament
October 08, 2014 | Women's Tennis
A rematch of sorts with Arizona State is on the schedule for the Princeton women's tennis team at Vanderbilt's June Stewart Invitational.
The Sun Devils, who fell to Princeton 4-3 last May in the first round of the NCAA tournament for the Tigers' first-ever NCAA tournament victory, will join Princeton and Purdue in sending players to Vanderbilt's event, which will run from Friday through Sunday in a hidden-dual format.
Play will start at 11 a.m. ET Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. ET Sunday. Friday, Princeton will start the day with doubles against players from Arizona State, followed by singles against players from Vanderbilt and wrapping the day with singles against players from Arizona State.
Princeton and Purdue have never met in a women's tennis dual match, and the Tigers' first meeting with ASU came in last year's NCAA match at Alabama. Vanderbilt and Princeton met annually in dual matches from 2009-11, with Vanderbilt winning two of the three meetings.
The event will begin the final month of the fall season for the Tigers, who will compete at the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional next weekend at Yale and then send players to the Lakewood Ranch Invitational in Florida and the Northwestern Invitational on the first weekend of November.
