PRINCETON, N.J. (10/9/14) - The Princeton men's soccer team resumes Ivy League action when it hosts Brown on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m.
Brown holds a 34-20-8 edge in the all-time series that began more than 60 years ago. The last two meetings have resulted in ties, and the last three games have reached extra time. Princeton and Brown played to a 1-1 tie in 2012 and a scoreless draw last year. In the last 10 years, there have been five one-goal games.
Princeton is looking for its first Ivy League win after a devastating 2-1 overtime loss to Dartmouth a week ago. The Tigers rebounded nicely with a 5-2 win over Rutgers on Tuesday night and hopes to finally have things clicking on both ends in sychronisity. Senior Cameron Porter and junior Thomas Sanner lead the team and the league in scoring with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Each has scored seven goals while Porter has one more assist with three to Sanner's two. Juniors Brendan McSherry and Nico Hurtado have been in scoring mix lately and each have a goal and two assist. Senior Myles McGinley had four assists in the first four games, but has been held without a point in the last five, while senior Julian Griggs who has five points has been out the last five games with an injury. Junior Ben Hummel has a 1.67 goals against average and a .704 save percentage with three shutouts. He along with the team are 4-3-2 entering Saturday's game.
Brown is 1-0 in league play after a 1-0 win over Columbia last Saturday. It was senior Ben Maurey that scored the lone goal, with just two minutes left in regulation, off a corner kick. The game marked the Bears fourth straight shutout and fifth overall. Brown has the second-best goals against in the league at 0.93 with senior goalie Mitch Kupstas playing every minute in goal. Kupstas has made 38 saves and allowed just nine goals. Brown also has the second-fewest goals scored with just nine tallies in nine goals. Maurey is the leading scorer with five points on two goals and one assist. Tariq Akeel has scored twice, Jack Gorab has one goal and two helpers and Nate Pomeroy has a goal and an assist.
