Cameron Porter Named Ivy Player Of The Week For Second Time In Three Weeks
November 10, 2014 | Men's Soccer
With winning streaks come individual honors, and Cameron Porter made sure the Princeton men's soccer team kept both of those going for yet another week.
Porter had a two-goal, one-assist, five-point week to lead Princeton to huge wins over American 2-0 and Penn 3-2, earning him the Ivy League Player of the Week award for the second time in three weeks.
Princeton has now won four straight games - and is unbeaten in its last seven - to move to the brink of the Ivy League title, and Porter's award marked the third straight week a Princeton player has won the Ivy Player of the Week award, after Thomas Sanner won last week.
Porter now has 14 goals for the season, the second-best total in Division I, and he leads Division I in goals per game and points per game.
Porter's monster year has helped Princeton get to the final week of the regular season tied for first place with Dartmouth at 4-1-1 in the league. Princeton finishes the regular season at Yale (0-5-1 Ivy League), while Dartmouth hosts Brown (2-2-2).
The Ivy League can finish with an outright champion, which could be either Princeton, Dartmouth or even Harvard. There can also be a co-championship between Princeton and Dartmouth or a three-way tie between Princeton, Dartmouth and Harvard.
Princeton would get at least a share of the championship with a win but can only get the automatic NCAA tournament bid with a win and Dartmouth loss. Princeton, with an RPI of 38, is very much in the hunt for an at-large NCAA tournament bid as well.
