PRINCETON, N.J. (11/4/14) - The final non-conference game of the season is on tap for the Princeton men's soccer team as the Tigers travel to American on Wednesday. Game time is at 2 p.m., at Reeves Field.
Princeton is coming off of a 2-1 win at Cornell which pushed the Tigers into first place in the Ivy League standings, along with Dartmouth. Princeton is undefeated in its last six games, 5-0-1 as it heads to the nation's capitol and is 8-3-3 overall. Senior Cameron Porter has scored 12 goals this season and adds three assists for 27 points. He ranks second in the nation in both points and goals per game. Junior Thomas Sanner adds 16 points in 12 games played with seven goals and two helpers and along with Porter the duo combine for five of the team's eight game winners. Classmates Brendan McSherry and Nico Hurtado chip in seven and six points apiece. Senior defender Andrew Mills is this week's Ivy League co-Player of the Week after scoring his first career goal, the game winner at Cornell. Behind him is junior Ben Hummel. Hummel has played nearly every minute in goal and has four shutouts with a 1.42 goals against average and a .716 save percentage.
American is 10-3-3 overall and receiving votes in the NSCAA national poll. The Eagles are unbeaten, 3-0-2 in their last five games and most recently battled to a 2-2 tie with Boston University on Saturday. Offensively, the Eagles are led by freshman midfielder Liam Robley and his 12 points on four goals and four assists. Sophomore forward Joe Iraola has scored four times and classmate Dale Ludwig has three tallies and two helpers. Sophomore Jake Garcia and senior defender Christian Robbs add six and five points, respectively. Senior defender Jake Weinreb was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week after two shutouts last week. Junior Dylan Hobart has started in all 16 games in net and has a 0.73 GAA and an .812 save percentage.
Since the teams first met in 1976, Princeton has gone 9-7-2 against American. The Eagles have won the last two meetings and four of the last five, including a 2-0 decision last season. Princeton's last win was a 3-0 shutout in 2009.
