Colautti Scores Upset on First Day at Lakewood Ranch Invitational

Sophomore Tom Colautti's upset of Virginia's ITA-ranked JC Aragone highlighted Princeton's first day at the Lakewood Ranch Invitational with both Colautti and teammate Zack McCourt moving on to the singles quarterfinals.
McCourt, the No. 71-ranked player in the nation and the top seed in the event's draw, won twice to earn a quarterfinal match Saturday against Arizona's Jason Jaruvang, who knocked out McCourt's teammate Mohamed El Tonbari in the first round.
Colautti won a first-set tiebreak against Aragone, the nation's 117th-ranked player, 13-11 and rebounded from losing the second set to take the match with a 7-5 third-set victory in the Round of 16.
"After losing the first six sets this morning, the boys battled back and faced adversity head on," Ryan Keckley, the Cornela Drake and John Van Ryn Jr. '28 Assistant Coach of Men's Tennis, said. "Without the proper preparation to become fully adjusted on the clay, we understood that difficulties early on were going to be inevitable. I was extremely impressed with how we handled ourselves throughout the course of the day and believe it directly impacted our success. During Tommy "Clutch" Colautti's second singles match, he found himself down 1-6 in the first set tie breaker and battled back to win the set 13-11. After losing a tight second set, he again scrapped out a massive come from behind victory after being down 2-5. I am very proud of the unbelievable effort Tom put forth tonight. We have four very difficult matches set for tomorrow and I hope to show similar composure and fight out of our four players."
