Men's Hockey Comes Up Short Against Dartmouth, 4-2

PRINCETON, N.J. (12/6/14) - The Princeton men's hockey team fell 4-2 to Dartmouth on Saturday, Dec. 6 at Hobey Baker Rink. The Big Green took a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period and held the two-goal advantage.
Senior Aaron Kesselman and junior Jonathan Liau both scored for the Tigers, but both goals were answered on the opposite end by the Green.
Dartmouth took the lead just 5:45 into the game on a goal from Corey Kalk. Jack Barre came out of the corner and whipped a shot at Princeton netminder Colton Phinney. The puck rebounded back out to Kalk who had an open net on the left side.
Kesselman knotted the game at 1-1 midway through the period with help from senior Tucker Brockett and sophomore Garrett Skrbich. The trio got together to force a turnover in front of the penalty boxes. Brockett picked up the puck and skated into the zone, down the right boards and fired on Dartmouth tender James Kruger. Kruger made the save and pushed the puck into the corner where Skrbich toed it to Brockett who skated behind the goal and slotted for Kesselman for the goal.
It didn't take long for Dartmouth to respond, as they regained the lead just 33 seconds later. Grant Opperman took a shot at the net and the Tigers' defense couldn't get to the rebound before Neiley roofed in the leading goal.
Four minutes later it was a 3-1 game with Tyler Sikura's first of two goals. Rick Pinkston sent a shot in from the left point after his team won a deep face off. Phinney denied Pinkston but the Big Green crashed the net it was Sikura that got the last touch.
Princeton's power-play goal at 9:57 of the second period, made it a one-goal game. Junior Kyle Rankin fed junior Mike Ambrosia behind the net. Ambrosia walked up the right side and sent the puck down low to Liau who went over the shoulder of Kruger for the 3-2 score.
Sikura answered four minutes later with the game's final goal at 14:14 of the second period. Dartmouth's Eric Robinson stripped the puck away from behind the Princeton net, gave it to Schierhorn on the left side and he found Sikura on the doorstep.Phinney made 38 saves in the losing effort for Princeton, and finished the weekend with 89 saves. Kruger made 29 stops as Dartmouth held a 42-31 edge in shots on goal.Princeton was 1 for 6 on the power play and 5 for 5 on the penalty kill.The Tigers will travel to Mankato, Minn., next weekend, Dec 12 & 13, for a two-game series with No. 2 Minnesota State.
