Freshman Performances Highlight Friday Night for Women's Track

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/18/14) – The Princeton freshmen were in the spotlight on Friday's portion of the Larry Ellis Invitational at Weaver Stadium.
Freshman Megan Curham was the runner-up in the final event of the night, the 5,000. She was thisclose to finishing in less than 16 with a PR of 16:00.71. Her time was the top collegiate time. She was right behind the professional Emily Sisson, known for her speedy 5k races. Curham's time is the second-best time in Princeton history, behind Alex Banfich's 16:00.40 from 2010.
Another freshman coming into her own and making her mark in the middle distance is Lizzie Bird. Bird proved she is one to notice in the 1500 as she claimed seventh in the elite race at 4:27.42.
It was like she never left. Ashley Higginson '11 came back to Princeton and dominated the steeplechase winning in 9:35.72. Her time was more than 10 seconds faster than any of the other competitor, and was 1.23 off her PR of 9:34.49.
In the 800 elite race, Cecilia Barowski ran unattached and came in third at 2:04.82.
The meet continues tomorrow morning at 11 a.m., with the women's hammer and shot put.
