Wolff Bows Out in NCAA Singles Tournament
May 21, 2014 | Women's Tennis
Princeton freshman Alanna Wolff had a tough draw to open the NCAA singles tournament, getting second-ranked Robin Anderson of UCLA to open the 64-player event in Athens, Georgia.
Anderson defended her seed, which matched her national ranking, with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Wolff, who is ranked No. 94 in the nation by the ITA. Wolff was making Princeton's first appearance in the NCAA singles tournament since 2002, but Diana Gardner '90 in 1990 remains the last Tiger to win a match in the event.Wolff, a second-team All-Ivy League honoree in singles play had a six-match win streak entering the tournament and had won 11 of her last 12 completed matches. That run included defeating two ITA-ranked opponents during Princeton's NCAA tournament run, Arizona State's No. 35 Desirae Krawczyk and Alabama's No. 93 Danielle Spielmann.
Wolff finishes her freshman season an overall singles record of 24-6, leading Princeton in wins between the fall and spring campaigns.
