Women's Tennis to Open Fall Season at Penn-Hosted Tournament
September 11, 2014 | Women's Tennis
The last time the members of the Princeton women's tennis team played a match on behalf of the orange and black, it was in a near-upset of No. 2 Alabama a day after knocking off Arizona State for the team's first NCAA tournament win in program history.
Those matches have joined that program history now, and this weekend's Penn-hosted Cissie Leary Invitational marks the opening tournament of the fall individual campaign.
Alongside players from host Penn, Harvard, Maryland, Old Dominion, Penn State, Richmond, St. John's, Temple and Yale, Princeton will enter the fall season with two players included in the recently revealed ITA preseason rankings. Sophomore Alanna Wolff, though not scheduled to play this weekend, is ranked No. 48 in the nation, the highest-ranked player in the Ivy League, and senior and reigining Ivy League Player of the Year Lindsay Graff is ranked 67th. Together, the pair is ranked 42nd in the nation in doubles play.
Play will begin at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday with doubles, 9:30 a.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday for singles, and then both singles and doubles will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday. The event will feature two singles brackets and one doubles draw.
Draws are available at the PDF link on this page. Princeton's entrants are below:
Singles A (32 players): Lindsay Graff, Amanda Muliawan, Dorothy Tang, Katrine Steffensen
Singles B (34 players): Joan Cannon, Katie Goepel, Sara Goodwin
Doubles (32 pairs): Graff/Steffensen, Goodwin/Cassandre Thebault (Maryland), Cannon/Tang, Goepel/Muliawan
