PRINCETON, N.J. (9/23/14) - The Princeton men's soccer team makes the hour trip south to Philadelphia to face Drexel on Wednesday evening, Sept. 24. The opening kick is set for 7 p.m.
Princeton leads the series with Drexel by a one-game margin, 3-2-1, since the first meeting in 1984. Last year the Tigers took a 1-0 game at home thanks to a Thomas Sanner goal in the 59th minute.
Princeton is coming off of a 2-2 tie with Boston University from Sunday afternoon. The Tigers are 1-2-2 overall and have the 19th best scoring offense in the country, averaging two goals per game. Senior Cameron Porter has scored four goals this season, ranking himself 17th in the nation in goals per game. Junior Thomas Sanner and senior Julian Griggs follow with two goals and one assist for five points apiece. Also ranked nationally is senior Myles McGinley, who has four assists, which is fifth best in the nation. In goal, junior Ben Hummel has a 2.15 goals against average and has a .684 save percentage.
Drexel is 2-3-2 overall and spent this past weekend in Albuquerque at the New Mexico Invitational. Impressively, the Dragons tied No. 4 New Mexico 1-1 before a 2-1 overtime loss to CSU Bakersfield. Drexel faced another Ivy League competitor earlier in the season, losing 2-0 to Penn on Sept. 5. Four Dragons have scored goals this season, however, no one players has more than one goal. Michele Pataia and Joaquin del Rosario have a goal and an assist apiece, while Guido Pena and Colin McGlynn have scored once each. Tyler Afflerbach has played every minute in goal. He has a 0.80 GAA and an .829 save percentage, making 29 saves and allowing six goals.
