PRINCETON, N.J. (9/26/14) - The Princeton men's soccer team begins a five-game homestand this Saturday, Sept. 27 when it hosts Binghamton in the final non-conference game before the Ivy League schedule gets underway. Game time is at 4 p.m.
This is the first meeting between Princeton and Binghamton, a program that moved to the Division I level in 2001.
Princeton is 2-2-2 overall and is coming off of a 1-0 over Drexel from Wednesday night. Senior Cameron Porter leads the offense, scoring four of the team's 11 goals. Junior Thomas Sanner is one point behind with seven, on three goals and one assist. Junior midfielder Julian Griggs has five points, scoring on both of his shots on goal and chipping in one assist. Senior Myles McGinle yis the team leader in assists with four, and he ranks 10th nationally in assists per game.. Juniors Andrew Doar and Brendan McSherry add three and two points, respectively. In goal junior Ben Hummel is 2-2-2 with two shutouts and 24 saves. He has a 1.82 goals against average and a .667 save percentage.
Binghamton is looking to snap a four-game losing skid as it comes to Princeton with a 2-6 overall record. All four of those losses have been by 1-0 decisions, including Tuesday's defeat to No. 18 Syracuse. Alex Varkatzas is the team's leading goal scorer with two tallies. Luca Bottoni and Charlie Novoth have a goal and an assist each, while Tommy Moon and Matt McCoy has one goa apiece. The Bearcasts have utilized two goalkeepers, Stefan Frantellizzi and Robert Moewes. Frantellizzi has a 1-3 record with a 0.85 GAA and a .769 save percentage, making 10 saves on 13 shots. Moewes is also 1-3 with a 1.33 GAA and an .812 save percentage, stopping 26 of 32 shots.
