Men's Tennis Opens Play at Penn, Alabama Tournaments
September 26, 2014 | Men's Tennis
Princeton's men's tennis team got its weekend started Friday with the first of three days at events at Penn and Alabama.
The Penn Invitational is being played in a hidden-dual format, with Princeton's players primarily meeting those from one other school in each morning and afternoon session. Friday morning, the Tigers met players from Lehigh before taking on players from Minnesota in singles in the afternoon. On the day, Princeton won eight of nine singles matches and two of the four doubles contests.
"It was a great first day for the Tigers in Philadelphia," Ryan Keckley, the Cornelia Drake and John Van Ryan '28 Assistant Coach of Men's Tennis, said Friday after coaching Princeton's contingent at Penn. "We started off slowly but finished each match with grit and determination. Coaches always love to see their team compete down to the last ball and that is certainly what we did in winning five out of five third sets in singles. We hope to bring the same energy and team spirit that we brought today as we take on Penn State tomorrow."
At Alabama's Crimson Tide Four in the Fall event, Princeton's foursome of Tom Colautti, Josh Yablon, Kial Kaiser and Alex Day opened Friday's play with doubles, taking two of four matches, and competed in singles in the afternoon, also winning two of four contests.
