Tiger Fencers Compete at NAC Event in Salt Lake City

Runner-up finishes by Ambika Singh and Katharine Holmes led Princeton's contingent at the North American Cup event in Salt Lake City, which wrapped Jan. 12.
In the Division I women's foil competition, Singh, a senior, placed second of 109, sweeping her five pool bouts and advancing to the final before coming up one touch short of gold, 15-14. In the same event, senior Sharon Gao placed 59th of 109 fencers.
Holmes, who is taking time off from competing for Princeton to prepare for a run at the 2016 Olympics, finished second of 139 in the Division I women's épée competition. She went 5-1 in pool bouts before Courtney Hurley, a Notre Dame alumna and a teammate of Tiger alum Susannah Scanlan '14 on the bronze-medal winning U.S. team at the 2012 Olympic Games, defeated Holmes 10-5 in the final.
Also in the Division I women's épée event, junior Isabel Ford placed seventh, going 5-1 in pool competition before advancing to the round of 32. Classmate Anna Van Brummen took 11th in the same event, also going 5-1 in pool bouts before Holmes defeated her in the quarterfinals.
Alumna Eliza Stone '13 finished ninth of 97 in the Division I women's saber competition, going 6-0 in pool bouts and advancing to the round of 16 before losing to Duke alumna Ibtihaj Muhammad.
On the men's side, freshman Thomas Dudey finished 13th in of 161 Division I men's foil. He went 5-1 in pool and advanced to the round of 16 before coming up short to Notre Dame sophomore John Crumpler. Dudey also placed 38th of 153 in the junior men's foil event.
Sophomore Alex House placed 12th of 253 in Division I men's épée. He went 3-3 in pool bouts and advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to Michigan alum Adam Maczik.
