Princeton stayed on Harvard's heels all game Friday night in front of an ESPNU audience, but the Crimson held on to win, 75-72. Princeton was burned in the first half by nine turnovers and five 3-pointers off the bench from Harvard's leading scorer Corbin Miller, who had 17 of his 19 points before the break. The Tigers only had two turnovers in the second half but couldn't clamp down enough defensively as Harvard shot 45.5 percent after the break while the Tigers were attempting to come back from a 10-point halftime deficit. |

• The Tigers are now 1-1 in the Ivy League, a game and a half back of Yale (3-0) and a half-game back of Harvard and Cornell (2-1). Teams have won the Ivy with as many as four losses, but that hasn't happened since 1987. In 2013, Harvard won the league at 11-3, the seventh time since Penn's 10-4 winner in 1987 that an 11-3 team won the league.
• Princeton started the season 1-5 and 3-8, but the team is 5-2 since that 3-8 start.
• It sounds simple enough, but when the Tigers win, they've made shots, defended and gotten to the free throw line. Princeton has not done those things as well in losses. In wins, Princeton shoots .480 from the field and allows opponents .421, makes 10.5 3-pointers (.422) and allows 4.5 (.283), and averages 17 of 23 from the line while opponents average 9 of 15 from the free throw line. In losses, Princeton shoots .421 from the field but allows .452, makes eight 3-pointers and hits at a .353 clip while allowing seven but at a .468 clip, and averages 12 of 17 from the line while opponents average 20 of 27.
• Harvard turned the ball over 10 times last night to Princeton's 12, breaking a six-game streak in which Princeton had fewer turnovers. The Tigers had fewer turnovers only five times in the first 11 games.
• Princeton is 8-2 when having a better 3-point percentage in the game than its opponent but 0-8 when it does not.
• Princeton has made more 3-pointers than its opponent in 12 of 18 games this season. Princeton is 7-5 in those games and had won five straight until Harvard beat Princeton despite making seven 3s to 10 for the TIgers.
• The change in year has been a positive change for the Tigers during Mitch Henderson's tenure. In the pre-New Year portion of Henderson's four seasons, the Tigers have a record of 27-25 for a .519 winning percentage. From New Year's Day forward, the Tigers under Henderson are 39-17 with a .696 winning percentage.
• Dartmouth returns 16 of its 57 points from its last meeting with Princeton on Feb. 21, 2014 in Jadwin, while Princeton 41 of its 67 including three of its double-figure scorers, Spencer Weisz (11), Hans Brase (14) and Ben Hazel (12). Connor Boehm (11) and Wesley Dickinson (10) scored in double figures for Dartmouth.
• Princeton leads the Ivy in 3-point FG% (.384), 3s per game (9.3), turnover margin (+0.78/game) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.1), and defensive rebounding percentage (.728).
• Princeton's starting lineup went unchanged for 12 games before Steven Cook missed the Rowan game due to illness, but Princeton returned to that mostly-usual lineup for the Harvard game. That lineup included one junior (Hans Brase), three sophomores (Pete Miller, Spencer Weisz, Steven Cook) and one freshman (Amir Bell). The five Dartmouth players with the most starts have a similar level of experience to the recent Harvard lineups, with seniors John Golden and Gabas Maldunas, juniors Alex Mitola and Connor Boehm, and one rookie in freshman Miles Wright.
• Princeton is 8-5 when scoring 28 points by halftime and 0-5 when it does not. The Tigers are 6-2 when scoring at least 69 points and 2-8 when they do not. The Tigers are 7-3 when holding opponents below 67 points but 1-7 when foes reach 67.
• Princeton is 8-3 when holding opponents below 41 percent from 3-point range and 0-7 when opponents make at least 41 percent of their 3-point tries.
• The Tigers are 7-1 when getting at least 13 turnovers from opponents and 1-10 when opponents turn the ball over fewer than 13 times.
• Princeton has made at least 10 3-pointers in seven of the last 11 games after doing so in only one of the first seven games.
• Through Friday's games, Princeton ranked eighth in the nation in 3s per game at 9.3. The team ranked in the national top 100 in nine statistical categories, with its next-highest ranking at 33rd in both 3s made (168) and fewest turnovers (219). Between them, Hans Brase, Pete Miller, Spencer Weisz and Steven Cook are included in the national rankings (approximately the national top 250 players in each category) 16 times. Hans Brase has the highest ranking, at 35th in defensive rebounds per game (6.22), while Spencer Weisz is also in the top 100 with a 58th-best .848 free throw percentage.
• Eight of Princeton's top nine scorers are non-seniors, with sophomore Spencer Weisz, junior Hans Brase, freshman Amir Bell and sophomore Steven Cook comprising the top four. Princeton is close to having no seniors in the top five, with senior Clay Wilson ahead of sophomore Pete Miller 6.2 ppg to 5.9 ppg, and the last time Princeton finished the season that way was 2009-10, when sophomore Douglas Davis, junior Dan Mavraides, freshman Ian Hummer, junior Kareem Maddox and sophomore Patrick Saunders were in the top five.
• Senior Clay Wilson's start against Rowan marked the first time since the fourth game of the season (Ben Hazel) that a senior made a start. Seniors have accounted for just 16.2 percent of minutes and 13.6 percent of the points this season.
• Spencer Weisz is leading the team in scoring at 12.4 ppg, eight points in front of junior Hans Brase. The last sophomore (or younger) to end the season leading the team in scoring was in the 2009-10 season when Douglas Davis '12 averaged 12.7 ppg. Since: Kareem Maddox '11 in 2010-11, Ian Hummer '13 in 2011-12 and 2012-13, and T.J. Bray '14 in 2013-14.
• In 58 Ivy League seasons, Princeton has posted 52 winning Ivy seasons, four 7-7 finishes and just two losing records.

• Dartmouth's Alex Mitola leads the league with 2.9 3FG per game and 35.6 minutes per game.
• Dartmouth is 5-1 when reaching 30 points at the half and 3-8 when not.
• Dartmouth's opponents are 8-1 when shooting at least 40 percent form the field and 1-7 when not shooting at least 40 percent.
• Nine Dartmouth players have started a game so far this season with Alex Mitola, Connor Boehm, Gabas Maldunas, John Golden and Miles Wright starting the most, all with at least nine starts. Only Mitola and Boehm have started all 16 games.
• Through Friday's games, Dartmouth was ranked in the national top 100 in four statistical categories, led by its 23rd-best 212 turnovers, among the nation's fewest. Alex Mitola, Gabas Maldunas and Malik Gill are ranked a total of 10 times in the national top 250 individually, led by Mitola's 2.9 3-pointers per game, 29th in the nation.

| Mitch Henderson '98 is in his fourth season as Princeton's head coach. His overall record at Princeton is 66-42. Under Henderson, Princeton is 37-10 at home, 29-15 in the Ivy League, and 19-4 in the Ivy League at home. Princeton is 52-13 when leading at the half under Henderson. Henderson is the first Princeton coach since John Thompson III '88 (2000-04) to have winning seasons in each of his first three campaigns. He is the sixth Princeton coach to accomplish that, following Frederick Luehring (1912-20), Butch van Breda Kolff '44 (1962-67), Pete Carril (1967-96), Bill Carmody (1996-2000) and Thompson III '88 (2000-04). Henderson is in a tie for eighth place on the Princeton all-time wins list alongside predecessor Sydney Johnson '97 at 66 wins over four seasons. He is two wins behind John Thompson III '88 at 68 wins, also in four seasons. Henderson was a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer in 1998, an honorable mention All-Ivy Leaguer in 1997, and was a two-time Ivy Rookie of the Week in 1994-95. Henderson graduated as the fourth-leading assist man in program history (kept since 1974-75) and is now sixth, having been surpassed by two of his players, Ian Hummer '13 and T.J. Bray '14. Henderson graduated fifth in career steals (kept since 1974-75) and is now ninth, having been passed by former teammate Gabe Lewullis '99, current San Diego Padre Will Venable '05, Marcus Schroeder '10 and his former player T.J. Bray '14. Henderson is one of six Princeton alumni who are current Division I head coaches, including John Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Joe Scott '87 (Denver), Mike Brennan '94 (American), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond) and Sydney Johnson '97 (Fairfield). Prior to Princeton, Henderson coached at Northwestern for 11 seasons under his final head coach at Princeton, Bill Carmody, from 2000-11. |
