PRINCETON, N.J. (10/19/15) - The Princeton men's soccer team wraps up a three-game homestand on Tuesday night when it hosts West Virginia in the first meeting between the two programs.
Princeton is 5-4-2 overall and coming off of a 2-0 Ivy League loss to Columbia from Saturday. Four seniors make up the top-four scorers on the team, led by Thomas Sanner. He has a league-best seven goals and adds three assists for a league-leading 17 points. Second in the Ivy League in points is Brendan McSherry. He has 11 on four goals and three assists. Nico Hurtado and Josh Miller have three goals apiece, with Hurtado adding three helpers for nine points, while Miller has one assist for seven points. Senior Ben Hummel owns every decision in goal and has a 1.56 goals against average and a .686 save percentage.
West Virginia comes to Princeton with a 6-7 record and like the Tigers, are coming off of a 2-0 league loss. The Mountaineers dropped a 2-0 game at Buffalo on Friday night. Jamie Merriam and Joey Piatczyc each have a team-best 14 points. Merriam has scored the most goals on the team, six, and adds two assists. Piatczyc's points have come via assist, 12 total, while he has scored once. Ryan Cain adds five goals, as he and Merriam have scored five of the team's six game winners. Alec Boerner and Daniel Diaz split time in goal. Boerner has a 1.38 GAA and a .743 save percentage with a 4-2 record, while Diaz has a 1.52 GAA and a .688 save percentage and a 2-5 record. West Virginia is coached by East Windsor, N.J., native Marlon LeBlanc. He and Jim Barlow both attended Highstown High school.
