PRINCETON, N.J. (10/28/15) - With four games remaining in the regular season, the Princeton men's soccer team looks close out strong and expand on last week's strong play. The Tigers host Cornell on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 4 p.m., in the first game of a double header with the women's team.
Princeton went 2-0 last week with a 3-2 double overtime win over West Virginia before a 3-2 win over Harvard on the road. Thomas Sanner and Jeremy Colvin swept the Ivy League weekly honors, as Sanner had a seven-point week and Colvin scoring six points. The Tigers are now 7-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the Ivy League to sit in fifth place in the standings. Sanner leads the team and the Ivy League in scoring with 24 points and in goals with 10. He adds four assists. Senior Brendan McSherry is tied for second in the league in points with 12, scoring four goals and four assists. Senior Nico Hurtado is fifth in the league in points with nine, on three goals and three assists. Colvin's eight points follows. Senior Ben Hummel owns every decision for the Tigers and has a 1.60 goals against average and a .688 save percentage
Princeton owns a 51-26-13 lead in the all-time series with Cornell, since it began in 1908. The Tigers won last year's game a 2-1 decision in Ithaca with Andrew Mills '15 scoring the game winner in the 88th minute. A Cameron Porter '15 penalty kick gave Princeton the lead in the 40th minute before Devin Morgan tied it in the 84th.
Cornell comes to Princeton with a 3-10-1 record and is seventh in the Ivy League at 1-3. The Big Red most recently dropped a 1-0 game to Brown at home on Saturday. Cornell averages 0.50 goals per game and is allowing 1.36 gpg. Junior midfielder Madison Heck leads the team with two goals. Sophomores Jonathan Cullom and Eric Nuss have a goal and an assist for three points apiece. Sophomore Mitchell Meyer and freshman Rhys Moller have each spent time in net. Moller is 1-8-1 with a 1.45 GAA and a .759 save percentage, while Meyer is 2-2 with a 1.04 GAA and an .808 save percentage.
