| Game Summary |
An early goal put Princeton behind, but the Tigers got the equalizer on an Emily Sura free kick, went ahead on freshman Samantha McDonough's first career goal late in the first half and added two more after the break in a 4-1 win. The Tigers outshot Army West Point 14-8 overall, and all four Tiger tries within the frame found the back of the net. Noelani Kong-Johnson, a freshman making her first career start in goal, settled in after the Black Knights' sixth-minute goal to make four saves. |
| Game Notes |
• Since the series resumed in 2013 after a 16-year break, Princeton has now won all three meetings against Army West Point. The win breaks the tie in the all-time series and puts Princeton ahead 5-4. • Princeton averaged 2.0 goals per game during its 2-3 start, which included the 6-0 win over Howard. During the six-game win streak since, Princeton is averaging 3.2 goals per game. • All three wins in the recent resumption of the series with Army West Point (since 2013) have come by three goals. • The only other time in the nine-game series with Army West Point that Princeton scored as many as four goals was in the first-ever meeting, a 6-1 Princeton win in 1983. • Princeton's six-game win streak is its longest since the Tigers rattled off 12 straight in 2012. • Freshman Noelani Kong-Johnson and junior Sarah Mendenhall made their first career starts Wednesday night. • Freshman Mimi Asom now has seven goals and is ahead of Tyler Lussi's pace from her 10-goal freshman season of 2013. Lussi had six goals through the team's first 11 games on her way to a 10-goal rookie season, the second-most for a freshman in program history (12, Linda DeBoer '86, 1982). |
