Fencing Schedule Announced for 2015-16 Campaign
October 08, 2015 | Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
The 2015-16 Princeton fencing season will begin Nov. 21 in Philadelphia with an eye toward Massachusetts in March.
Princeton's slate for the upcoming season features six regular-season events before the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional and then the NCAA Championships hosted by Brandeis in Waltham, Mass.
The Tigers, the only team to post a top-four NCAA finish in each of the last five years, bring back nine of the 11 fencers to represent the program at last year's NCAAs, including senior épée Jack Hudson and junior Alex House, sophomore foil Thomas Dudey, sophomore saber Edward Chin and junior Peter Pak on the men's side, and senior épée Isabel Ford, junior foil Ashley Tsue, sophomore saber Allison Lee and senior Gracie Stone.
The season-opening event, the Elite Invitational hosted by Penn, is new to the schedule but in a familiar locale. Two weeks after that, the Tigers will return to the Sacred Heart Duals on Dec. 6, where the team has competed in each of the last two seasons. Last year, Princeton combined to go 8-0 at the event.
Following a break, Princeton will resume its schedule Jan. 30 and 31 at the Northwestern Duals, where the Tigers have competed in each of the last six years. A year ago, Princeton's teams won 16 of 19 bouts at that tournament.
A week after the Northwestern event will be the Ivy League Round-Robin Feb. 6-7, which will decide the Ivy League title, this time hosted by Cornell. Princeton's women will be looking to get back to the top spot after seeing their five-year streak of Ivy titles end, while the Tiger men will be aiming for their first league crown since 2012.
Princeton will head back to Philadelphia for the Temple Duals on Feb. 20 for the sixth straight year. Last time, Princeton took six of 10 bouts at Temple.
Eight days later on Feb. 28, Princeton will host the National Squad Championship, an event in which Princeton has competed each of the last four years but will be coming to Jadwin Gym for the first time.
Once the calendar turns to March, the NCAA postseason can begin, first with the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional on March 12 at a location still to be determined, and then with the NCAA Championships March 24-27.
