Lussi Earns Ivy, Suburban Transit Athlete of the Week Honors, Tigers Ranked
November 02, 2015 | Women's Soccer
Tyler Lussi scored the first goal and assisted on the second as the Princeton women's soccer team beat Cornell 2-0 Saturday to clinch the Ivy League title and the league's NCAA automatic berth. For her efforts, she has been named the Ivy League Player of the week for women's soccer and the Suburban Transit GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week.
The goal was Lussi's 13th of the season and 41st of her career, tying her with Linda DeBoer '86 for second on Princeton's all-time list. Esmeralda Negron '05 is the program's record holder with 47.
The Ivy award is Lussi's fourth of the season and seventh of her career, each breaking Ivy League records. Princeton already has the single-season record for Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors, with Mimi Asom's six, the record for most Player of the Week honors for one team, with seven, and the record for the most total awards, with 13. Asom's six rookie honors tie Princeton for the record for most rookie honors by one school in a season.
Nationally, Princeton moved up seven spots on the NCAA's weekly announcement of the RPI, now standing 31st of 333 teams. In the new NSCAA rankings Tuesday, the Tigers were again ranked No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic Region for the fifth straight week while also jumping into the NSCAA national top 25 for the first time since September 2005, ranked 24th in the nation.
Princeton will face Penn Saturday at 5 p.m. in Philadelphia, pursuing a 12th straight win and a 7-0-0 record in Ivy League play. Next Monday at 4:30 p.m. on NCAA.com, Princeton will learn where it falls in the NCAA tournament draw.
