Sanner Named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year; Four Earn Honors

PRINCETON, N.J. (11/19/15) - Thomas Sanner has been named the Ivy League Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year by unanimous decision and four players were named All-Ivy, it was announced on Thursday, Nov. 19.
Junior Patrick Barba was also named first team, while senior Brendan McSherry was a second-team selection and senior Josh Miller was honorable mention.
Sanner is the second consecutive Tiger to claim Player of the Year honors and third in the last five years. He is the sixth in program history joining: current Princeton head coach Jim Barlow in 1990, Michael Nugent in 2001, Darren Spicer in 2004, Antoine Hoppenot in 2010 and Cameron Porter in 2013.
Even more impressive is Sanner is just the second Tiger to have earned Rookie of the Year honors and Player of the Year honors in his career. The other Princeton player to do so - Jim Barlow. He is just the sixth player in Ivy League history to accomplish this feat.
Sanner is also one of just two players to earn uanimous first-team All-Ivy League honors this year. He led the Ivy League in both points, with 31, and goals with 13 - scoring six more goals than another player in the league. Sanner ranks fourth in the NCAA in points per game (1.82), fourth in goals per game (0.76) and was eighth nationally in shots per game (4.06). Five of Sanner's 13 goals were game-winning goals as he helped the Tigers to a 10-5-2 overall record. This is his second first-team honor, and third honor overall - having been honorable mention as a freshman.
Barba earned his first all-Ivy League honors. Barba started in all 17 games on defense and had one assist in a win over Drexel. He helped to hold opponents to just 1.29 goals per game and just 4.6 shots on goal per game.McSherry finished second to Sanner on the team in scoring with 17 points on six goals and five assists. His points ranks him tied for second in the league in scoring, third in goals and tied for first in assists. McSherry scored game-winning goals over Drexel and Penn, while also scoring in games versus Boston University and Binghamton. He had his first two-goal game on Oct. 13 versus FDU. This is McSherry's second all-Ivy League honor.
Miller earns his third all-conference honor. He started all 17 games and finished tied for fourth in scoring - leading the defenders in points - with 10. He scored three goals and four assists, after entering the season with just two points. Miller scored his first collegiate goal against FGCU and scored game winners over Boston University and FDU. He chipped in two assists in 4-0 shutout of Drexel and added assists in wins over Seton Hall and Penn.
Princeton finished the season 10-5-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the Ivy League.
