PRINCETON, N.J. (12/2/15) - The ECAC Hockey and Ivy League season resumes this weekend as the Princeton men's hockey travels to Brown and No. 10 Yale.
EYE ON THE TIGERSPrinceton is 2-8 overall and most recently lost a pair of non-conference games at Maine. The Tigers are 1-5 in the ECAC, with its win being a 3-0 shutout over No. 20 Clarkson. Freshman Ryan Kuffner and sophomore David Hallisey each have seven points to lead the team in scoring. Kuffner has three goals and four assists, while Hallisey has two goals and a team-best five helpers. Freshman Max Véronneau has scored the most goals on the team, four, and adds one assist. Sophomore Eric Robinson is fourth on the list with four points on three goals and one assist. Junior Colton Phinney has every decision in goal and has a .938 save percentage and a 2.46 goals against average.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Brown returns from Belfast after going 1-0-1, and outscoring its opponents 10-5. The Bears earned a 5-0 shutout over Colgate before a 5-5 tie with UMass Lowell in the championship game of the Friendship Four. The Bears are 2-4-3 overall and 2-3-2 in the ECAC. They are led offensively by senior Nick Lappin who has six goals and nine assists for 15 points. Freshman Tommy Marchin has 12 points on six goals and six assists, while senior Mark Naclerio has 10 points on four goals and six assists. Freshman Max Gottlieb is second on the team in assists with eight, as the leading scoring defenseman. Junior Tim Ernst has started in all but one game in goal. He has a .905 save percentage and a 2.79 GAA.
THE PRINCETON/BROWN SERIES
Brown holds an 86-66-9 edge in the all-time series with Princeton since it began in 1900-01. Last year the teams played to a 2-2 tie in Providence, before Brown won a 4-1 game in Princeton to close out last year's series.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
With a 5-2-2 overall record entering the weekend, Yale is ranked No. 10 in the latest USCHO poll. The team played just once last weekend, falling 4-3 to defending national champion Providence. Yale is 3-1-2 in the ECAC. Senior Stu Wilson sits atop the scoring column with eight points on two goals and a team-high six helpers. Freshman Joe Snively and sophomore Ryan Hitchcock have each scored a team-best four goals. Snively adds three assists for seven points, while Hitchcock has two assists for six points. Junior Frankie DiChiara chips in six points. Junior Alex Lyon is the only netminder Yale has used. He has a 1.62 GAA and a .937 save percentage.
THE PRINCETON/YALE SERIES
Yale squeaked out a win over Princeton in the 2015-16 season opener at the Capital City Classic. The teams were tied virtually the entire game, scoring 22 seconds apart in the first period, before Yale took the 2-1 lead with 3:04 remaining in the game. An empty-net power-play goal sealed the win. The Bulldogs hold a 139-103-11 advantage in the series with Princeton since the teams first met on Jan. 19, 1901. Yale is on an eight-game unbeaten streak in the series, 7-0-1, with Princeton's last win during the 2012 ECAC first-round series.
