HAMDEN, Conn. (12/30/15) - The Princeton offense scored three goals against the nation's top scoring defense but fell just one goal shy as No. 3 Quinnipiac took a 4-3 game on Saturday, Dec. 30 at High Point Solutions Arena.
After a Quinnipiac goal 10 seconds into the game, it looked as though there would be a repeat of last night's game but the Tigers wouldn't have it.
Princeton scored three straight goals in a span of 5:42 to take a 3-1 lead over No. 3 Quinnipiac, who has the nation's top scoring defense of 1.39 goals per game.
A delayed penalty led to Princeton having an extra skater and the Tigers capitalized. Junior Garrett Skrbich got the play started on a give-and-go in through the neutral zone with junior Ryan Siiro. Siiro's shot was stopped at the left pipe by Michael Garteig but senior Kyle Rankin kept the puck in play and Siiro gave it another whack past Garteig at 5:00.

Freshman Max Véronneau tallied his fifth goal of the season at 8:39 with help from classmate Ryan Kuffner. Veronneau was playing high and was in great position for a breakaway pass from Kuffner at the top of the left circle. Véronneau got Garteig five hole.

Josh Teves scored his first colligate goal to give the Tigers the 3-1 lead at 10:42. Kevin McKernan tried to clear the puck out of the zone on the Princeton power play, but it was stopped at the left point by Teves who fired through traffic to light the lamp.

A 22-2 shooting differential in the second period led to Quinnipiac regaining the lead. The Bobcats scored twice in 2:17 in the first eight minutes of the period to knot the game at 3-3. Travis St. Denis set up both goals, the first from Sam Anas at 5:21, the second by Landon Smith at 7:38.
A 5x3 power-play goal by Derek Smith was the difference maker as it gave the Bobcats the go-ahead goal at 13:26.
Colton Phinney was outstanding in goal, making 39 saves. Highlights include a stop on a backdoor chance by Devon Toews early in the second, a toe save on St. Denis five minutes into the second and a stop on Bo Pieper after he shrugged off his defender near the net.
Garteig stopped 17 as Quinnipiac improves to 17-1-2 overall and 8-0-2 in the ECAC.
The Tigers (4-10, 3-7) are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 2 when they take on Holy Cross. Game time is at 7 p.m., at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass.
