PRINCETON, N.J. (1/8/16) - The Princeton men's hockey team skated to a 4-4 tie with Union on Friday night, the second draw of the weekend for the Tigers.
The teams traded goals throughout the night, with Princeton (4-12-2, 3-7-2 ECAC) taking the lead on two occassions. Senior Kyle Rankin had a goal and an assist, while sophomore defender Quin Pompi had two assists. Freshman Josh Teves had an incredible sequence of saving a potentional Union (9-7-5, 2-6-2 ECAC) goal and then skating down to score. Junior Colton Phinney made 24 saves in the tie.
"Anytime you come away from a weekend with two ties, there's a couple ways to look at it," senior captain Rankin said. "On one hand, we grabbed a couple of key ECAC points but at the same time we look at these two games as games we could have won. Tightening a few things up could have resulted in two more points, so we can't be satisfied with the ties and can't be satisfied with where we are at, but I think we can be satisfied with the way we committed to the process this weekend and rebounded from a tough start up after the break."
Sebastian Vidmar scored twice for Union, while Brett Supinki and Spencer Foo had two assists each. Freshman netminder Jake Kupsky made 28 saves.
Vidmar scored the first goal of the game at 10:19, but Rankin made it a 1-1 game at the close of the first with this goal:

Vidmar notched his second five minutes later, a power-play goal, before Supinski took advantage of a turnover for an unassisted goal that gave Union a 3-2 lead.
With 1:40 remaining in the second stanza junior Garrett Skrbich cleaned up a loose puck to even things up once again:

Teves incredible play on defense can be seen here, as he swats away the puck from going into the goal, then gets a feed from Ryan Kuffner to give the Tigers the 4-3 lead at 13:53:

"I just dove and was lucky enough to get a stick on it and directed it out away from the net," Teves said. "On the goal, Kuffner made a great behind the back pass and I saw some open ice and took advantage of it. I took a shot and tried to pick a corner and it worked out. I'm happy to stop a goal and happy to score a goal. It's frustrating that that couldn't get us a win but there's a lot to be happy about about the game but we want to keep working towards those two points but I think its a couple steps forward from where we were a few weeks ago."
Ryan Scarfo prevented a Princeton victory as he buried a puck on a scrum at 16:59.
Princeton earned two valuable ECAC Hockey points this weekend, after tonight's tie and last night's 3-3 tie with No. 20 Rensselaer. The Tigers are off until Jan. 23 as the University takes exams and semester break.
