NEW YORK, N.Y. – With several strong performances, the Princeton University women's track and field team closed out a busy weekend of competition at the Penn State Nationals and Armory Invitational.
In State College, Pa., Taylor Morgan won the indoor pentathlon with a school record score of 3777. Teammate Kerry Krause placed fourth with a mark of 3484. In the 60m hurdles portion of the event, Krause was fifth (9.13) while Morgan came in eighth (9.18), earning 883 and 873 points, respectively.
Krause and Morgan tied Villanova's Katherine Petruzzelis for first in the high jump, clearing 1.68m (5-06.00). Morgan earned the maximum amount of points in the shot put thanks to a toss of 11.93m (39-01.75), while Krause came in third (10.66m). After registering the second best mark in the long jump at 5.35m (17-06.75), Morgan earned 761 points with the top time in the 800m run (2:24.68).
At the Armory Invitational, Erika Fluehr set a personal record and posted the fastest time in Friday's two sections of the 3,000m run, but ultimately placed 13th (9:43.76). Lizzie Bird (9:56.64) and Melissa Reed (10:00.98) were 23rd and 28th, respectively.
Turning in a solid performance in the 800m run, Cecilia Barowski placed sixth with a time of 2:08.56. Melinda Renuart led all Princeton runners in the Armory's mile run, crossing the finish line in 5:01.94. Birdie Hutton came in 23rd, clocking in at 5:09.14, while Gina Talt was 26th (5:11.78).
In the 4x800m relay, Bird, Katie Hanss, Zoe Sims and Emily de La Bruyere came in fifth with a time of 9:00.33. Princeton's 4x200m relay 'B' squad was 10th with a time of 1:41.76, while the 4x400m relay finished 17th overall with a time of 3:51.95.
In the field events, Julia Ratcliffe placed fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 19.67m (64-6.5) on her final attempt. Delaney Kerkhof was the Tigers' highest finisher in the triple jump at 10.88m (35-8.5).
The Tigers will return to action on Feb. 6-7 at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup hosted by Penn State.
