February 01, 2015 | Women's Tennis
Princeton may still be searching for its first win on the new dual-match season, but the Tigers have challenged themselves all along that search.
For the third time in four matches, only a single point separated Princeton from victory as Saint Mary's defeated the Tigers, 4-3 Saturday in California.
Princeton had a dual match point for the second time this season, along with the opener against Syracuse last weekend. The Tigers opened with by taking the doubles point when Lindsay Graff and Katrine Steffensen outlasted their opponents in a tiebreak on court one, but the setback didn't stop the Gaels.
Graff and Muliawan split their matches on the top two singles courts as Princeton remained ahead 2-1, but Saint Mary's won on courts three and five to put Princeton one point from defeat at 3-2. Steffensen won on court four to keep the Tigers alive, and the attention shifted to court six, where Emily Hahn battled Parminder Kaur to three sets while getting a second-set win after dropping the opening frame. Kaur won the third set 7-5 to take the match for the Gaels.
