Men's Tennis Completes Colorado Sweep with Win at Denver
February 01, 2015 | Men's Tennis
Princeton's men's tennis team felt right at home two time zones away in Colorado, completing a weekend sweep with a 5-2 victory over Denver Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers opened their season with a 7-0 win at Air Force Friday, but Princeton fell behind Saturday after losing the doubles point. Zack McCourt's win on court one over ITA-ranked opponent Henry Craig pulled Princeton even, but Denver's Diogo Rocha followed with a straight-set win over Josh Yablon on court three to put the Pioneers back in the lead.
Rocha's win was the last one Denver got, as Princeton picked up wins from Luke Gamble, Kial Kaiser and Dan Richardson to clinch it before Tom Colautti's victory on court two widened the margin and closed the afternoon.
Princeton will return home for three matches over a span of not much more than 24 hours, beginning with a 3 p.m. contest Friday with William & Mary and followed Saturday with a 9 a.m. tilt against Bucknell and a 1 p.m. match against Furman.

Coach Billy Pate on the match: "This was a great win for our team in tough conditions. Denver really jumped on us in doubles and it was crucial we respond right away in singles. I was very proud of how we clawed back and eventually turned the momentum. We played a very good team today on their home courts with fast conditions and really showed some poise. We'll look forward to getting back to work this week and playing at home next weekend." |
